Growing Young Leaders | Daraja Girls School | Kenya
An afternoon spent walking the fertile soils in Nanyuki, Kenya with Christine from Daraja Girls School
Daraja Academy is an all girls school dedicated to the empowerment of the feminine, providing young women opportunities to pursue their passions, learn hands-on skills, receive mentorship, and advocate for the betterment of their own communities through student-led initiatives.
It was a delight to frolic through the pathways of Christineβs onions and witness the pride and joy she had in the crops she had sowed and nurtured herself.
May one day all schools have a farm on site where students have the opportunity to learn how to grow food that goes on to nourishing themselves & their communities. a hope that i see slowly manifesting all around the world.
The campus has a vegetable farm and the Daraja Young Farmers Group (made up of students passionate about growing food) have sections of the farm they are responsible for tending to and that they care for the entirety of the growing cycle from planting to harvesting. Much of the food consumed in the campus cafeteria is grown by students on their soils.
